This Week's Message

Psa 62:1 <To the chief Musician, to Jeduthun, A Psalm of David.> Truly my soul waiteth upon God: from him cometh my salvation. 2 He only is my rock and my salvation; he is my defence; I shall not be greatly moved. 3 How long will ye imagine mischief against a man? ye shall be slain all of you: as a bowing wall shall ye be, and as a tottering fence. 4 They only consult to cast him down from his excellency: they delight in lies: they bless with their mouth, but they curse inwardly. Selah. 5 My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him. 6 He only is my rock and my salvation: he is my defence; I shall not be moved. 7 In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God. 8 Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah. 9 Surely men of low degree are vanity, and men of high degree are a lie: to be laid in the balance, they are altogether lighter than vanity. 10 Trust not in oppression, and become not vain in robbery: if riches increase, set not your heart upon them. 11 God hath spoken once; twice have I heard this; that power belongeth unto God. 12 Also unto thee, O Lord, belongeth mercy: for thou renderest to every man according to his work.

My Heart Will Trust in You!

Psalm 62

Many times in our lives, we are faced with various situations that really are difficult to deal with. We are faced with the challenge of how to deal with things like bereavement, sin, guilt, dissappontment, loss, poverty, stress and depression. And when we face these circumstances, the greatest question we have is whether indeed God cares about us. We ask, does God even know that I am faced with this difficult situation? We are tempted to in fact begin doubting God's ability to reach us and touch us and provide us with his comfort.

Christianity and indeed Christian life should not just prepare us to deal with good times but also with bad times as well. The Christian life should enable us deal with both goot times and bad times. Throughout Scripture, there are clear instances in which God provided his grace and comfort to his people that were faced with difficult moments.

Psalm 62 provides us with the song, yes with the disposition we need to have when faced with difficult moments. Here in spite of the difficulties that were faced by the Psalmist, he proclaims that from God comes salvation and as such his soul will wait upon him. Waiting is perhaps the most difficult thing to for many of us to do. In this "instant" generation, we usually need answers and need them just now. Whatever happened to the word, "patience" in our time is just simply shocking and surprising. Here in v. 1, David speakes to himself, that he will wait upon the Lord. Waiting is powerful, as it is written: they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. Our trust in God begins from an attitude of quietly waiting upon Him. You can never trust someone, you are not willing to wait upon. If you trust God, then you will wait for him. And waiting for God, is a sign that you truly trust Him. Oh that God may give us the grace and the ability to wait for him.

But the reason why we wait for God is because of who He is and not necessarily who we are. In v. 2 God is described as the rock, and as the defence. Indeed when we have a clear revelation of who God is in our lives, we will then have the ability to trust him. You can never trust someone you do not know!! A definition of who someone is, is the beginning of our ability to trust them. Unless we have an idea of what and who God is and is able to do, we will fail to appropriate his presence during the most difficult moments we face each day. And in fact once you know who God is you will be declare like David did: "I shall not be greatly moved."

In v. 5, the theme of waiting upon the Lord while we trust him is re-emphasized. Here David declares that he will wait upon God since his expectation is from him. We always achieve in the direction of our expectations. What we expect, we receive. There are so many poeple who expect evil, who expect something bad to happen to them everyday and by force of their expectation they receive just what they expect. As you trust God what will you be expecting from him? Jesus' ministry was marked by people who received from him based upon the levels of their expectation, and this expectation is called FAITH.

In verse 8, David encourages us to keep our trust upon the LORD. And this we must do all the time. It is not just about today, or when things are well but all the time. God should be God to us in good times, but he also must remain God in difficult moments.

Regardless of what we go through God still cares for us and we must still keep our trust in Him!
